Baroness Orczy’s Elusive Pimpernel

It is September 1793 and French Agent and chief spy-catcher Chauvelin is determined to get his revenge for the previous humiliation dished out to him at the hands of the Scarlet Pimpernel. Chauvelin travels to England as an official representative of the French government tasked with looking after the interests of French citizens, but this is only a cover and his real purpose is to trick Sir Percy Blakeney into returning to France, where he can be captured and put to the guillotine.

Emmuska Orczy wrote more than just The Scarlet Pimpernel

While the Scarlet Pimpernel may be the most famous book in that series, it was in truth one of many, and while the stories were written in a different order than the that which events within the story’s universe take place, readers may want to proceed through the universe in chronological order.  With that in mind, this list from wikipedia, tries to place the books in Chronological Order:

The Laughing Cavalier
The First Sir Percy
The Scarlet Pimpernel
Sir Percy Leads the Band
The League of the Scarlet Pimpernel
I Will Repay
The Elusive Pimpernel
Lord Tony’s Wife
The Way of the Scarlet Pimpernel — concurrent with preceding 2 or 3 novels
Eldorado – unclear whether before, after, or concurrent with Mam’zelle Guillotine
Mam’zelle Guillotine – unclear whether before, after, or concurrent with Eldorado
Sir Percy Hits Back
Adventures of the Scarlet Pimpernel
The Triumph of the Scarlet Pimpernel – seems to have happened later than dates indicate
A Child of the Revolution
Pimpernel and Rosemary

Chesterton, and two of the early works of Agatha Christie, we have found some collections of British Mysteries which will hopefully continue with this theme of mystery, and stories where the reader is challenged to think, and as they read try and find the clues the lead character is picking up on to solve the crime.

This volume contains a story by Joseph Conrad, another by the author of the Scarlet Pimpernel, Baroness Orczy, and another by Rudyard Kipling.

Copies of British Mystery Multipack Volume 3 – The Mysterious Affair At Styles, The Secret Agent, The Man Who Would Be King, A Christmas Tragedy and The Dead Secret have been added to the current CheerUp.Fun Free eBook Collection.  The first 100 people to sign up (new collection as of March 1) should receive a free copy added to their Kindle Library.  To sign up, click this link, and follow the prompts at the Amazon page.  Once you have joined the CheerUp.Fun Free eBook Collection, as recommended books are selected and shared during the month, they will be added to your Kindle Library.
